DKIT STUDENTS TEAM UP WITH PAT THE BAKER TO PRODUCE ONLINE VIDEOS
A group of fourth year PR students from Dundalk Institute of Technology have teamed up with Pat the Baker to produce online videos to highlight Pat the Baker’s new ‘Scone In’ campaign.
A ‘Scone In’ involves getting a group of friends or loved one’s together and enjoying some quality time with each other while eating scones. These comical, low budget videos were filmed and produced by the four students as part of their final year project.
The students who will graduate this year from the first ever Public Relations, honours degree course available in Ireland said “We’ve been given a great opportunity to work with such a successful well known Irish company and we’re excited to work in conjunction with Pat the Baker on such interesting campaigns.”
Oliver Durkin, Brand Manager for Pat the Baker said “We envisioned the idea of a Scone-In months ago but the students helped us in pushing the idea forward and have created some brilliant videos that capture our vision of a ‘Scone In’ perfectly. The quality of the work these students have produced for us so far has been of a very high standard and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
The videos are available online this week and can be viewed on www.youtube.com/patthebakerofficial or on the Pat the Baker website www.patthebaker.com

Win Meet And Greet With Top Comedians Thanks To Pat The Baker Craic Brack and iRadio
iRadio, which runs regional radio stations i102-104 and i105-107 in the West/Northwest and North East respectively, has teamed up with Ireland’s famous bread company Pat The Baker to launch a Hallowe’en barm brack with a difference-the Pat the Baker Craic Brack!
Ireland’s champion baker has not only included a ‘bundle of laughs’ in each brack but is offering customers the chance to win four VIP tickets to the Hallowe’en Howls Comedy Festival in Portlaoise this October Bank Holiday Weekend. The prize in association with i102-104 and i105-107 will include a meet and greet with performers at the festival like PJ Gallagher, Neil Delamere and i105-107’s breakfast show co-host Bernard O Shea.
If all that isn’t enough, there is the chance to win €20 in each Craic Brack, which are on sale in retail shops across Ireland for the month of October and have been handmade. Pat the Baker Brand Manager Oliver Durkin explains that the champion baker decided to launch the special brack after the success of the Barack Brack which went on sale for President Barack Obama’s inauguration with a ‘special presidential mix’. “Pat the Baker bracks are extremely successful and are absolutely delicious. They are made by hand in our factory in Granard, Co Longford and we decided to launch the Craic Brack after the success of the Barack Brack-plus it’s all a bit of craic!”
Oliver explains that this is another partnership between the champion baker and the highly successful regional radio stations i102-104 and i105-107. “We’re an ongoing partner with iRadio sponsoring the I Go Home show on i102-104 and Breakfast with Bernard and Keith on i105-107. As sponsors of that show and with the lads performing at the Hallowe’en Howls Festival, it made sense for us to extend that partnership into comedy!” Pat the Baker and iRadio are both known for their innovative campaigns and each Craic Brack will carry the iRadio logo. Pat the Baker Bracks, explains Oliver Durkin, are one of the company’s best sellers but this brack is different. “All our bakers have been told to put some special laughter into this brack so when they are baking they are smiling constantly! The bundle of laughs included in each Craic Brack is the result of that!”
As a result of using the top flours and ingredients available, Pat the Baker is recognized as baking the best bread for the past fourteen years by the Master Bakers of Ireland. Rena Maycock, General Manager of iRadio says the stations are delighted to be involved with Pat the Baker on yet another major marketing promotion. “Pat the Baker are known for their fun and exciting campaigns and this ties in well with our ethos in both i102-104 and i105-107, where fun but gripping radio is the order of the day. We are delighted to team up with the champion baker yet again.”
iRadio is the exclusive media partner of the second Annual Carlsberg The Hallowe’en Howls Comedy Festival taking place in Portlaoise from Thursday 22 October –Monday 26 October. The festival is a must for the festival goer’s calendar with intimate comedy venues and the lineup boasting the crème de la crème of Irish Comedy including Jason Byrne, Karl Spain and Maeve Higgins. Top Irish Comedians who fill Vicar Street on a regular basis will grace some venues that can accommodate just 60 patrons.
iRadio, has made its’ name thanks to its’ talented on air personalities and major station promotions such as The Naked Bus, the i102-104 Thief and Indecent Proposal. i102-104, set up in February 2008, is now the biggest 15-34 regional station outside of Dublin with a weekly reach over the past six months of 166,000, according to the most recent listenership figures.

‘When evolving the bread lottery we thought it would be a great opportunity to use some of the card to promote various initiatives. We thought it would be a good idea to help promote locations around Ireland that might not receive an abundance of press yet are beautiful places to visit. It makes both ecological and economic sense to holiday in Ireland.
All of our paper packaging coming out of our bakery; wrapping inserts, scone trays etc. are from sustainable forests. We are trying where we can to be more ecologically responsible. The lottery tokens are a wonderful media space and we will promote various national initiatives throughout the year.’

In addition to the token, which appears at the bottom of the card, Pat The Baker has decided to use the rest of the space to promote various other national initiatives. The first of which is the promotion of change.ie.
'When evolving the bread lottery we thought it would be a great opportunity to use some of the card to promote various initiatives. We were aware of the 'Change' campaign and thought it would be a great initiative to start off with. All of our paper packaging coming out of our bakery; wrapping inserts, scone trays etc. are from sustainable forests. We are trying where we can to make a change. The lottery tokens are a wonderful media space and we will promote various national initiatives throughout the year.'
- Oliver Durkin, Brand Manager at Pat The Baker.
Welcoming the initiative, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr John Gormley T.D. said:
'I trust that people will see, from these messages, the changes they can make to their lives which can save them money, while having a positive impact on the environment. When you cut carbon, you cut costs. Pat the Baker is to be commended for the corporate responsibility the company has demonstrated in making this space available to the Change campaign and in becoming one of the first Irish companies to commit to using the new Carbon Management Calculator. Good carbon management is good business management.'
The Change.ie tokens promote various salient messages from the campaign such as, Turning off the tap when brushing teeth saves 7000 litres of water per year. These straightforward and achievable messages are positioned on inspired backgrounds designed by 2020 Vision in Dublin.
'The Bread Lottery is an exciting new development in our marketing strategy and represents a considerable investment by Pat The Baker in our rapidly growing half pans. We are very much aware of the need for change and have embraced that change in all aspects of our business.'
